OMGwhat only works if what is on the map is real. These guidelines are part of the Terms of Service.

What makes a good Find

• You saw it yourself, recently, and the photo is yours.
• It is genuinely findable by someone else — publicly accessible, with a real location.
• The pin is on the thing, not on the parking lot two blocks over.
• Say what is actually surprising or useful about it. No clickbait, no invented history.
• If access is odd — hidden entrance, seasonal, ticketed, closes early — say so.

Confirmed, reported, unverified — do not blur them

Confirming a Find means you saw it, in person, recently. Marking something "still there" you have not visited, or "gone" because you did not feel like walking over, poisons the record for everyone. Fake confirmations, mass-confirming for points, and coordinated voting are treated as abuse and can cost you points and your account.

If something has changed, use the dispute or report control instead of editing history. Disputes are how outdated records get fixed.

Private property and trespassing

• Do not post anything that requires hopping a fence, ignoring a sign, or entering a closed site.
• Do not pin private homes, private yards, or non-public interiors, and do not post photos taken inside them without permission.
• Do not post abandoned or derelict sites as an invitation to explore them.
• If a property owner asks for removal, we remove it. You can ask at help@omgwhat.app.

Safety

No instructions for dangerous stunts, climbing, entering water or structures, or anything illegal. Do not post a Find framed as a dare. If a place is genuinely risky — unstable, no lighting, no cell signal, wildlife, tides — say that plainly instead of leaving it out.

Other people

• No harassment, hate speech, threats or targeted pile-ons.
• No doxxing: no addresses, phone numbers, workplaces, plates, or someone's routine.
• Avoid photos where a stranger is the subject and identifiable, especially children.
• No impersonating a business, a creator, another user, or OMGwhat staff.

Someone else's photos and videos

Crediting a creator is not permission. Do not upload their photo, video frame or screenshot — link to the original and write your own description. See Copyright & content reporting.

Businesses and creators

You are welcome here. Keep it honest: no fake Finds about your own business, no burying competitors with disputes, no incentivised confirmations. To correct or remove something about you, use the report control on the record or email help@omgwhat.app.

What happens when guidelines are broken

Depending on severity: the record is relabelled or hidden, the content is removed, points are reversed, or the account is suspended or terminated. Illegal content may be reported to authorities. Safety emergencies: safety@omgwhat.app — and contact local emergency services first if someone is in danger.
