Data sources & licenses

Baseline locations are imported from open datasets so the map is useful before the community fills it in. Imported records only tell you that something is mapped at a location. They are never presented as verified, working, clean, available or free.

• OpenStreetMap — © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL). See the OpenStreetMap copyright page. OMGwhat.app does not own OpenStreetMap data.
• Wikidata — data from Wikidata, released under CC0 1.0. Wikidata items appear as candidate Finds: unverified suggestions that something here may be worth seeing, waiting for a seeker to add a photo and say why it's interesting.
• Additional providers (for example public government datasets) may be added later. Each keeps its own license and attribution, recorded per record.

Everything about whether an amenity actually works, what it costs, how clean it is and when it was last checked is created by OMGwhat.app members. This community layer is stored separately from imported source records, with its own provenance, and is not part of any imported dataset.

Map imagery is served by our configured tile provider and is separate from the data ingestion layer. Where tiles are rendered from OpenStreetMap data, attribution to OpenStreetMap contributors is shown on the map.
